Windows 10: To LTSB or Not...

With the release of Windows 10 Enterprise, subscribers have the option of installing the normal flavour, or opt for the so-called LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch) installation. This gives the administrator the option of delaying the installation of new features until such a time that all software has been checked to be compatible. Bug fixes and security updates will of course still be available.

Question: For a small company of about 60 workstations, would you go for the normal CB version or the LTSB version as your standard install?

There are several technical and bespoke software packages in use, which will of course have to checked first. I just want to avoid the situation where some CB update causes the company to grind to a halt because a software package refuses to work. Then again, I have rarely found software that I couldn't get working on newer platforms. So what's the risk? What are people doing out there?

This really comes down to SLA / recovery time from your business. You need to be able to rollback the update on however many PCs within your SLA with your business.
If you only have a couple of core users, you could troubleshoot those ones manually in a few minutes as long as it's not something that is critical.
60 workstations would take a long time to troubleshoot though. Personally, anything over 20, I would definitely look to control the updates. Less than 10, I wouldn't bother.
You need to allocate a subset of users to be your pilot group to get the deployments early so you can verify / pick up if there are issues before deploying to the rest of the group.
 
Agreed. Think I'll go with the LTSB version. There's still a lot of software I need to test before letting this thing loose. Probably not going to do widespread installations in the next 6 months anyway.
