Is it possible to set the taskbar to show all open apps across all virtual desktops in Windows 10?

The current behaviour is to only show apps open on the active desktop and when you open an app that's already open on another desktop it opens a new instance instead of task switching to the existing instance, which is very annoying.

Got to Virtual Desktop Settings, there you can set that all the apps that is open on all the desktops to show on the taskbar. Try that and see if it solves your problem.

Right-click on the taskbar > Properties > Customize > on the left bar: multitasking > Virtual Desktops > change Only the desktop I am using to All Desktops.

Why is this annoying? Each desktop is meant to be a separate work spaces?

If I have my mail open on one desktop I don't want it to open another instance of the app when I click the icon, I want it to go the mail app that's already open.
