Hi

We have a server running Windows 2003 server. We are seriously running out of hard drive space. There are 2x 80gb SATA hard drives making up a RAID 1- mirror array. ( these make up the C drive)

Was wondering if it would be safe to power off the server, Ghost both the drives onto 2 x new 1 TB drives, then inserting the new drives in.

Any ideas? Symanted reckons it should be ok. I would really appreciate any info , has anyone here done this succesfully ?

Tx

Why dont u just try it? there is no real chance of data loss?
What is being used to make the array? Do you have a raid card?

Looks like SATA software RAID.

You reckon that I wont run a risk of buggering things up, should the GHOST clone not work. What I mean to say is that should the new drives not boot properly. By plugging in the old ones , I should be up and running again ??

(Fingers crossed)

Other option would be using something like Backupexec System Recovery ( trial be free for 60 days ) to Livecopy the running server to an image, restore that to a new drive, popping that in and seeing

I got a feeling what you are trying wont work, but wont break anything either.

100%

Or just use storagecraft, image the drives while it's in windows. Load onto new drives and reboot.

Thanks for all the info guys. Goint to attempt this afternoon !!! Eish!!
