Hi all,

I am attempting to use an iBurst desktop modem with Windows 7 64 bit and I am having some weird results.

If I connect to the internet and just leave my machine and not do any data transfer everything is fine, but when I start surfing and incurring data transfer, after a while (anywhere between 1 and 5 minutes) my machine freezes and refuses to respond to anything, mouse does not move either. I have to hard reboot the machine :wtf:

Windows is fully updated. I am using the iBurst Windows 7 64 bit driver from here - using a PPPoE connection.

Any ideas would be appreciated, and please advise if I can provide any further information.

Cheers
Mort

mine does the same. I thought its perhaps the laptop over heating thats causing the problem?

Are you actively using the machine when it freezes, or is it perhaps going into a power-saving mode?

ambroseg1: Happens when I just boot up for the first time and everything is still cold. Does not occur any other time even though I work on this notebook all day, so no not a heat issue.

Raithlin: Happens when I am actively working and when just left. The power profile is set to always on when plugged into power so there is no power saving kicking in either...

Both good ideas but I don't think either is affecting me...

Driver issue? I connect via WLAN through my router, so I can't confirm the same on my laptop (Windows 7 x64 Home Premium).

I do suspect it is driver issues, I am currently connecting via USB... Thats something to try at least, Ill give it a go thanks

Well i'm using the same setup, but i'm connecting via a linksys router, cable to main pc and wireless to laptop and have had absolutely no problems. Try connecting via the ethernet instead of usb and that will probably work better.

Gonna give that a go tonight, ethernet directly to my notebook. Is there anything strange I should know, or can I just setup my PPPoE as I do when connecting it via USB?

You actually have to set up a dial up connection if you use it via ethernet, with your username and pw. Using connection wizard, select manual setup, then select the broadband option and take it from there.

Yeah Ive done the same with the USB connection, I don't use the iBurst dashboard, it uses resources unnecessarily... lol

Will post the outcome after some testing since it seems there are a few people experiencing this and not much light has been shed :P
Is there anything to that MTU discussion in the other Windows 7 thread?

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Suggestions:
1.Try to disable the power management setting in Device manager for the iBurst modem under Network Adapters along with power management settings under the USB adapters.
2.Try to use the connection through Ethernet instead of USB to see if this could be a driver issue or something on the computers causing the issue.

Does this happen with all data thought put or just on certain pages? Aka if you send/receive emails does your pc lock up? I know that if I'm watching a flash video and try to switch to full screen my pc locks up but thats a problem wit flash player.

r00igev@@r: will try disabling the power management as well.
Mental-Tree: So far it seems to have been with eMule and with browsing via FireFox...

Thanks

I have been researching this all night on all types of forums, and I think the problem lies with Windows 7 and not Iburst (who would have guessed).

many hundreds of people are having the same problem. No clear solution yet.
