I'm running the following:

C2D E8400
P5Q PRO - I presume the Intel drivers will work?
HD4850 - Drivers available
Live 24 bit - Only Vista 64 drivers available
Netgear Wireless Card PCI - Only Vista 64 drivers available

Questions:

1. Will the Vista 64 drivers work on those devices, or not?
2. I am busy downloading build 7100, is that the latest?
3. I am running this machine mainly for downloading and a bit of gaming, will most of my programs work?
4. Can I just upgrade or clean install needed?

Keen to give it a go, changing from Vista 64 Ultimate.

1. Vista 64-bit drivers work for me so don't know why they wouldn't work for you
2. It is not the latest but I'm using 7100 atm and apparently it's the (officially) most stable version
3. Most of your programs should work. I do the same with Win7 and all mine work except for Steganos Privacy suite.
4. A clean install is recommended.

Getting 1 tomorrow, was reallyitching to play with it tonight.

Guess I'll watch the last few episodes of Prison Break with the wife then, thanks for the help.

PoiZoNouz, I see u in Bryanston area. If you want to meet tomorrow 12h30 in Greenstone mall I can cut you a copy of a working ISO for W7 64 bit, FOC. All you need to do is pick it up. PM me if u interested.

Btw I see your specs are very similar to mine. You should try an OC on that E8400, it loves a good OC!

Thanks a lot for the offer, getting a disc tomorrow from a mate already.

I am oc'ing, its 3Ghz stock at 333 fsb, running 3.6 at 450 fsb.

There are Windows 7 64 bit drivers on the ATI site if I remember correctly.

2. I am busy downloading build 7100, is that the latest?
AFAIK Yes :)

Anything that worked on vista works on Windows 7 so unless you're trying to run some super old game it should run, things like utorrent, fdm, idm all run fine.

4. Can I just upgrade or clean install needed?
Clean install is recommended but you can do an upgrade.

Windows 7 just works full stop :) Love it, frikin awesome... every single driver of mine works, every program works.

OK, got it all installed, running very nice, except for 1 thing, my Bitdefender will not update, it says no connection, yet the Firewall picks up the connection and monitors everything. Any ideas?

Oh, and Firefox crashes everytime I close it.

Do you think it is relatively safe to use this as a primary OS? anybody using it as primary OS? seeing as though they said they wont make any major adjustments to the retail project, and that the RC1s are normally pretty stable??

last question , will you be able to go straight from the RC1 to the retail product without losing any data?

im using it as primary both at work and at home. haven't had a single issue; you might suppesdly via the upgrade trick do from 7100 to 7xxx when final comes, but its always better to go clean install again.

What's the disadvantageous to doing a straight upgrade?

well, my box at home i upgraded from vista 64 which didn't have issue itself, but i guess some issues that you currently have could come over during the upgrade or after the upgrade some stuff just wont work. you could always try the upgrade advisor for windows 7.

my work pc, well that i did clean install didn't wanted to go the xp 32bit to win7 64 upgrade route (yes this is possible, just not in the normal way)
