Hi guys, couldn't find a thread dealing with this, but was wondering if iBurst is supported under Windows7 RC? I've finally managed to get hold of a copy and am keen to see what it can do on the net. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals

prob depends on your modem model. If it worked on vista it should work on win 7 as vista and win 7 use the same kernel.

been working fine for me, got a usb modem... i think i just installed the iburst terminal and set everything else up

Spartaniz, it is an old UTD one, had it about 3years now. Haven't bothered with Vista, used it fine under XP and Ubuntu Linux.

mmm, hadn't thought of that, will try that out sometime, gotta install it first though.

Shaun needs to confirm, but I believe the drivers are available on-line for the modems. You'll need to have another connection to download them via the auto update.

The Ethernet ones should work straight out.

Thanks jannie, I've got a Linux partition that I can scrap and use for Windows7. Will try it on the Ethernet cable and drop a note in here.

if you plug the modem into one of your Ethernet ports it will be the exact same setup as a dsl router using a PPPoE connection, Im not sure about this, but i dont even think theres drivers for vista 64 for the old modems.

I couldn't get the Vista drivers to work for the old UTD modem under Win 7 (rel 7100 I think it was), but the XP ones worked just fine. I think you still need to manually update the driver from under Control Panel, by telling it to look in the \Program Files\Iburst directory though, even after installing the driver by doubling clicking on the exe file.

As has been said though, just plugging in an ethernet cable works just fine, though I find I get a far more reliable & faster connection over USB than ethernet.

Hi all

The drivers will be made available in October in line with windows 7's release.

I am waiting for an official release of 7 before I can start testing.

Ethernet is way more faster than USB, that's why you don't see everyone connecting USB cables between PCs. Reliablity can be said to be the same and the only advantage of USB is the ability to use the iBurst monitoring software.

I heard that Windows 7 has a feature which allows you load old software/drivers that works with windows XP only.

In other words, Windows 7 tricks the software into believing it's Windows XP. (Hope that makes sense).

The software is called XP Mode, you still require a legal copy of Windows XP to use it.

It does not in anyway trick Windows 7 but virtualises XP with in itself.

XP Mode can only be used in 7 Professional or Enterprise/Ultimate.

The Vista Drivers work on Windows 7. You just install it in Vista compatibility mode. The 64bit drivers as well. I uploaded a re-packed version that works 100% with with Windows 7 64bit on the Express Modem. I'm using it now to type this in Windows 7. It is the identical driver as used on the desktop modem as well. Just search the forum for it.

Also, as mentioned above, XP Mode is an addition to Microsoft Virtual PC that will allow you to run XP in a virtual machine within Windows 7 providing that you have a CPU that supports Intel VT instructions. Unfortunately, these instructions are only available on Core 2 Duo and above CPU's. Also, only some of the Core 2 Duo CPU's have it and Dual Core Pentium's don't. Despite all this, you cannot use XP Mode to provide driver emulation for non-supported (legacy) hardware within Windows 7.
