Does anyone experience the same issue with Windows 7 Audio?

Since about 3 weeks ago my Desktop running Win 7 has this issue where some audio files (I've only tried mp3 and some video files) sounds very "muffled". It's almost like listening to songs under water. (I don't know what listening to songs under water sound like but I guess it will sound like that)

I thought it was my Desktop giving up on life after 10years so I didn't worry about it too much.

Today I got a call from my sister-in-law complaining about the same issue.

She's also running Win 7 on her laptop.

I've updated the audio drivers but it doesn't make a difference.

Anyone with the same problem?

Sounds like you have some 3D virtualisation effects enabled on the sound card.
Look through the control panel sound applet or through the third party sound app for any virtualisation features.
