As the title states, I was performing malware removal using Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware, and Spybot. All was going well until the time came to reboot.

After rebooting, it immediately starts the startup recovery process, which fails after a short time. Now I can't even get into Safe Mode, it just goes straight to startup recovery.

I'm now cloning the hard drive of the laptop, with the intention of formatting it, since everything I've tried doesn't seem to help.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Restore old registry backups via command prompt.
chkdsk /f
bootrec /fixmbr /fixboot /RebuildBcd
Also tried repairing from a Windows 7 Pro CD, but it says it's the wrong version. It's running Win7 Pro 64 and I used a Win7 Pro 64 CD, but no go.

All the steps you highlighted and performed seem fine. One question remains though.

Is there only one drive/partition/disk inserted on the machine? No flash drives etc. either.

If so, double check what the boot drive/partition is in the BIOS Setup. :)

There's only one drive, it's not easily removable either unlike with most laptops. At any rate, I was able to clone the drive to an external, reformat and restore most of the data. Probably better that way anyway, at least I can be sure all the malware is gone.

I actually tried that exact tutorial, and it didn't work.

It's not mine, was helping a friend out. I keep weekly image backups of my C drive, and I keep backups of the backup images.
