Hi All

After reading the Windows 7 thread hereabouts, my curiosity overcame my bandwidth limitations and I downloaded the torrent.

I have just installed Win 7 prebeta 6956 on my old HP nx7010.

It really flies! Installed in under 45 minutes on a blank HDD.

Even with 1.5GB RAM, a crappy Mobility 64MB ATI and a 1.7GHZ Centrino it is as snappy as XP. Vista sucked on this laptop. Sloooow and awful. Win 7=vrooooom.

I am busy installing a whack of software on it just to see how it fares... but thus far, VERY VERY responsive and I AM impressed.

I am inclined to believe the ranting of the previous posts.

My my my, there IS hope herein.:D

A quick screencap...

7801? !! I did not need to know this.

I just looked for the highest seeded version with positive comments and grabbed that one.
Oh well...

I will play with this version for a while. I AM finding it very likable! I may just begin to migrate across to it for now.

No problems at all with drivers except the intel prowifi card. 194MB vista driver from Intel. Grrrrrrr. The XP driver works but the software / profiles just don'wonna run.

Hows 7801?

I assume this isn't a legit beta? Ie. you can't let Microsoft know you're using it?

Hey

I used my Vista RC1 key and it says I am legit!

Cerebus, I cannot vouch for any hardware other than that inside my notebook. It all works at the moment, even the bluetooth, right out the box, except for the Intel Wireless. (Grrr 194MB).

So far nothing but smooth sailing on it.

So if you download a service pack they check to make sure it's a legit installation each time?

Hey

I am off to play some more...

But OMG, THIS is what Vista should have been.

So far awesome!

kilobit - You must enable the superbar, very nifty little thing. Microsoft originally disabled it but there are ways to enable it, just google for it and there are a few files you can download that'll do it for you :)

I'm using the 6936 build, any idea what the difference is between this and the 6956 build?

lookin at winbeta they only list 7 M3 6801

Hey S1ght

Googling now.... I already have a kinda redesigned taskbar. Single Icons with stacked previews etc... but will look more into "superbar".

As far as different builds go, can't say. The 6956 is the only one I am playing with. It is a little unstable with multimedia on my notebook, I suspect dodgy ATI XP drivers... will try others later. No way will there be any gaming on my machine in this current state.

As far as apps etc go, smooth and very very usable. A little more hammering and if all still stands, well, I may just move from XP to this on the nx7010.:)

Media Player was very unstable for me when I first started, it crashed every time I opened it but I suspect it was from loading all my music cause now it seems fine. As far as games go I have tried a few, generally I'd say they either just a tad slower or on par with my xp. It also only used 600-700 meg ram on boot and I'm using the 64bit edition which in my vista was normally over a gig.

Shark, Any ideas where, I just tried one but no seeders available.

My IT guys just agreed to let me have access to the uncapped line for the next few days...but not sure if this would be any good using torrents???
