Anyone have a problem where playing certain video files causes media player 12 to have an audio/video sync problem?

I downloaded the latest DivX codec and installed nothing but the codec & DirectShow filters.

The DivX watermark does not show when opening a video and there is still a sync problem.

VLC plays the files properly but do not prefer using it over media player 12

Google Media Player Classic or Klite Codec Pack

Works wonders

+1 for Klite.
Some video files are actually coded as XVid. MP12 with Klite fixes the synch issue on PC, but when burned to CD/DVD and viewed in a normal DVD player, the synch problem remains.
When I download XVid files, I usually jus re-encode with DivX converter and voila!

To find out whether your avi file is Divx or Xvid, use Gspot.

But a DivX sync problem might be due to how the file was encoded/converted.
I find if I download files they are usually synched ok but if I then re-encode them with the Divx encoder they go out of synch. The encoder help files explain why this happens and how to get around it. It's possible you just have a "bad" file, unless it plays ok on another machine or under a different OS

It's not that the files are encoded with a sync problem, it's that wmp12 does not decode them properly and that even though I installed the official divx decoder it doesn't use it to decode divx files, instead it still uses the built in codec Microsoft provides.
