Hi

I have a network drive (P:\) with a folder P:\DOCS and have changed My Documents location to it. I have also enabled Offline Files and made this folder (P:\DOCS) Always Available Offline.

The idea is to always save files to the network folder and not the local PC. But these files must still be available offline in case of a network failure, etc.

Everything works fine when I unplug my network cable - I can still edit and save to this folder. However, when I plug the network cable back it shows the drive (P:\) is mapped but all the folders are NOT accessible except for P:\DOCS. All the others folder icons have a grey cross next to it.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?:confused:

I am using Windows 7 Enterprise

Thanks!

Did you verify that two-way sync between a network folder and your computer is enabled?

Does the sync also fail when to manually click to update it in the sync center?

Depending where some of your folders are located UAC can prevent the systems from accessing them.

Also just check the space available for offline files, I've seen sometimes when one reaches the space limit allocated to offline files you'll start having all sorts of finicky issues

All the folders are accessible before unplugging the network cable but not afterwards when I plug it back. Only the folder marked as Available Offline.

The synch doesn't fail. The problem I have is that all the other folders (except the offline one) are NOT accessible after plugging the network cable back.

The files in the offline folder sync's fine. it is the NON-sync'ed folders that I cannot access anymore when I re-map the network drive.

Will you try the following and see if it resolves your sync failure?

Change your My Documents property back to the default, which should be a local address.

Create and share a folder on the network storage device and map to it.
Click on the network drive and then right click the folder you've shared. Select make available always.
If everything is well your data will start to sync.

Guys, I don't know if I explained it not well enough.
The sync-ing works fine. I can sync both both ways; no problem there.
Oflline files also works fine when I unplug from the network.
The problem is when I connect to the network again only the sync'ed folder is accessible and not the other folders.

How much of data do you have offline? i have found that often when the data is in excess of 2Gb the offline databases get corrupt. The only way to recover from this is to re-initialize the data base which means loosing all changes made while offline.

to reinitialize the databases you need to do the following

Start RegEdit.exe with elevated permissions
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CSC\Parameters
Create new REG_DWORD key with name FormatDatabase with value of 1 -

If you are in excess of 2Gb try the following solution
it may work

1. Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
2. Expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Network, and then click Offline Files.
3. In the right pane, double-click Default cache size.

I currently have less than 1MB data offline. I am in the process of testing it.
To reiterate: Sync'ing works 100%. I have a problem with the non-sync'ed folders on the network drive (P) that are not available anymore after re-connecting to the network.

I see it is available AFTER I reboot or log off/on again. Is this how it is meant to work?

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I believe UAC is preventing a connection from being established.

Did you create a homegroup?
Are both pc's joined to it?

I am testing it on the work network. Windows server 2003.
