If by sharing network you mean, access a shared folder accros the network, then Yes
 
haha... networking between Windows XP and ANY version of Windows 7 is a pain in the butt! You can see the Windows XP computers from Windows 7 just fine... but trying to see the Windows 7 computers from Windows XP is a serious pain.

It's a hit and miss thing... you might get lucky. You have to turn off all kinds of features in Win 7 to make it work. You need to plan this carefully.

If you are ok with just seeing the WinXP computers and driving everything from Windows 7 then you should be fine. But if you really really need to access your Win 7 computers from Win XP... then you are in for a rough ride.

My advice is to upgrade all the PCs to Win 7 at the same time.... or to keep them all on XP if two way networking is essential to you.

Never had any serious problems finding win7 from a xp pc. Worst case is it wont show up in the network, just open explorer and type \\Win7_PC_Name
As for my settings in the home network, i have network discovery turned on, file and printer sharing turned on, password protection off. With password protection on, you have to type in your Win7 login credentials everytime you access a network share.
 
can you find the XP machine from windows 7 home basic .thats my concern,
