I posted this once before and actually sorted the issue out - but now I can't recall what I did :( I'm reposting so that maybe someone can assist

I have a legit copy of Windows 7 on my PC - activated and all working. I then bought an HP Microserver to run XBMC on and installed the same copy of my Windows, but without activating it for obvious reasons. I don't see a need to buy a license for a single program.

But here's my issue - every few hours it minimises to tell me I most register. Beforehand with the same Windows, I managed to go into services and deactivate a service that prevented it minimising, but now I can't find it ...

Anyone have any idea how I can make it stop minimising? I don't care about the blackscreen and other crap, as XBMC stays open anyhow - but the minimising is an issue.

PS I don't want OpenElac and XBMCbuntu

Do you really need to run windows 7 on the micro ? Install windows 2008 rc2 you get like 180 days free with an extension if you need. Then just re-install and repeat :)

But frankly I have not tried XBMC on Windows 2008

If you want to use windows then pay up ... or pirate it ... I gather your previous solution was disabling the activator "pirating it" otherwise you would not need to ask the same question again. Pirating something while there is a free alternative available will get you into a special place in hell one day ...

Since you feel entitled to pirate, I feel entitled to tell you to use XBMCbuntu :D

Technically, I'm not pirating ...

I bought that Windows 7, I've activated that Windows 7 and I use that Windows 7 every day. I loaded it onto another machine, but it's not hacked, cracked, patched, pirated or activated. The service to deactivate that minimising is simply a check box within Windows - again not a patch or anything untoward.

Regarding the other OS, I totally agree with you - and I have run OpenELEC etc before. The problem was that I didn't know half the commands - I couldn't mount the drive, add a new drive, move files etc without having to ask someone to assist :/

The previous solution was just stopping the minimising - it wasn't hacked or anything dodgy. It still removed the wallpaper with notices about counterfeit software etc and complained when started like a normal system.

I just reformatted hence doing it again

You are using an unlicensed copy of software, that is piracy.

As was suggested why not use a Linux distro with XBMC?

So, if I understand you correctly, there is no worries when pirating?

This. If you need to run two copies of Windows you need two paid licenses.

Well you would still need a second license, otherwise the one copy will be disabled.

How would it get disabled? If PC 1 is activated and you attempt a second activation on PC 2, how would PC 1 know?

If I delete every 3 weeks and run the same unlicensed copy - that's alright?
And if during this time I'd like stop a service - is that entitled?

If so all is legal - do you have a decent answer to the question?

Maybe you should read the license agreement you have accepted:

2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.
a. One Copy per Computer. You may install one copy of the software on one computer. That
computer is the “licensed computer.”

4. MANDATORY ACTIVATION.
Activation associates the use of the software with a specific computer. During activation, the software
will send information about the software and the computer to Microsoft. This information inclu des the
version, language and product key of the software, the Internet protocol address of the computer,
and information derived from the hardware configuration of the computer. For more information, see
go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkid=104609. By using the software, you consent to the transmission of
this information. If properly licensed, you have the right to use the version of the software installed
during the installation process up to the time permitted for activation. Unless the software is
activated, you have no right to use the software after the time permitted for activation.
This is to prevent its unlicensed use.
You are not permitted to bypass or circumvent
activation.
If the computer is connected to the Internet, the software may automatically connect to
Microsoft for activation. You can also activate the software manually by Internet or telephone. If you
do so, Internet and telephone service charges may apply. Some changes to your computer
components or the software may require you to reactivate the software. The software will remind
you to activate it until you do.

Great.

I'll reformat and then I have the right to use it up to activation. So - now - do you have a real answer?

Can you read? You are only allowed to install it on one computer
