Windows 7 & Laptop Battery Woes

I have a Travelmate 6292 that came shipped with Vista Business but I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate x64... what a mistake!
My battery ran fine under Vista but I'm receiving the common "consider changing your battery" notice in Windows 7, with my battery life being reduced to about 30 minutes of usage.

I formatted and went back to Vista but the problem still presents.
I've done quite a bit of googling and I'm attempting to recalibrate the battery right now but I was wondering if any of you folks have had any similar experiences or advice... Hoping my battery isn't ruined for good :cry:
 
I doubt Windows 7 had anything to do with it Charlie. Sounds like your battery is just on its way out. My Dell has recently had the same issue, but the battery was at fault, got it replaced and its all good now.

Unfortunately batteries are funny little buggers, there is not much you can do to it other than replace :(
 
I disagree - win7 gave me the same issues and in the end I just replaced it. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that win7 is the culprit however MS deny this.

Assuming you're right and my battery does indeed need replacing, why would it drop from 4hrs of usage time on Vista to 30 minutes on Windows 7... Surely the 30 minutes is takes to install Windows 7 can't cause the battery to deteriorate to that extent?

Obviously, not everone has this problem - I've installed Windows 7 on numerous laptops, all trouble-free. Which is why I would never had anticipated this problem.

A lot of folks have even replaced their batteries only to have the same issues come up again in a week or 2 while running Win 7... There's clearly a problem, I reckon.

What did you eventually do to get your laptop working properly again?
 
I replaced the battery. However since then, even with the new battery I have been noticing significant decrease in battery life from 2.5 hours (initially) to 1.5 hours (at present). The battery is two months old!!
 
I had a plugged in, not charging message on my HP with Windows 7. When I googled it, noticed like 4 billion people with the same issue. I updated the boot rom/ bios whatever it was software and turned off my computer, unplugged the battery held down the power button for a minute, put the battery back in and voila, its working again, unfortuantely, baterry life is no where near what it used to be.

Thanks for that info... Are you still running Windows 7 though?
 
I've installed Windows 7 on two old notebooks, one a Sony SZ38 and the other an Asus Eee 1000HE.

Battery life and monitoring works perfectly on both, no problems.
