Since I've installed Windows 7 I can't get my network to work correctly, can anyone help?

I have an ADSL router in bridge mode connected to a wireless router, both routers have DHCP off. I have a IPCop box plugged into the ADSL router that is supposed to assign my IP and work as my Internet gateway. I then connect to the other router via wireless. This setup worked perfectly with Windows XP and is still working for the laptop running Windows XP.

Now I set Windows 7 to auto assign , I get assigned the IP 169.254.232.255 which does not fall into the range of IP's my DHCP assigns. My connection status then jumps between "Limited: and "Internet" and I get a message saying their is an IP conflict. If I manually assign my IP and gateway I also get an IP conflict and I still don't get Internet access unless I dial a pppoe connection.

Windows firewall is off and I assume that the Wireless adapter is working correctly installed because if I dial a pppoe connection my internet works perfectly.

I can't ping either router and if I try access them I get "Forbidden
You were denied access because: Access denied by access control policy."

Mine just worked... Picked up the other 2 pc's (One wireless and one wired)

Was actually quite impressed with that... Sorry Im not really helping you :/

Try the following:

Start Run enter cmd
on cmd prompt type
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Windows IP Configuration

Code:
An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The sy
stem cannot find the file specified.

The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for
this operation.

Below is my IPConfig, I have assigned an IP of 192.168.0.84 but it doesnt showup

Code:
 C:\Users\sav>ipconfig

What ethernet adapter(s) do you currently have? Because it seems as if Windows7 haven't detected your Ethernet adapter correctly, or it doesn't have the driver for that particular chipset.

Windows7 does not have all the drivers bundled for most Ethernet adapters yet...

If, in a pinch, you can try XP or Vista drivers... but I can't guarantee things.

Ethernet is detected and installed but I disabled it. I connect via wireless which is also installed correctly.

If I enable it, the ethernet sections looks like this.

Code:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::a93e:2dec:9c87:d154%12
   Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.209.84
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ok so now I set my Wireless adapter to auto detect and I get this.

Code:
Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::a414:5ec0:3ef3:7159%20
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Then I refreshed 4 or 5 times an got what you see below, this is what it should be getting assigned by the DHCP but then it goes back to what you see above.

Code:
Windows IP Configuration
Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : localdomain
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::a414:5ec0:3ef3:7159%20
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.84
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

mac filtering perhaps?

@Brian as stated by Libs, it looks like a driver problem. Try deleting the driver, powerdown and restart to see if it will detect your hardware.

Remember this is a BETA release, which means that many things are left out. You might have better luck if you install a VM on another OS and then install Win7 into that. maybe something like installing VWware server on an XP or Linux OS.

No mac filtering, I not even been assigned an IP even when I set it manualy.

I have tried the one that windows installed and the Windows Vista one from the manufacturer and both do the exact same thing.

well you will have to google for a program like that,Even is vista it was a problem,I guess deactivating automatic driver installation never worked.Please turn system restore off to.

Well that 169 IP address is the APIPA funtion that has been built into Windows for ages, that gives your pc an IP address if it can't get one from DHCP or is not statically set.

Not sure about the rest, but it sounds pretty complicated. Sorry, I'm stumped here

Oh well, I think I will be loading XP again tomorrow. Will give Windows 7 another try when beta2 comes out.

Thanks anyways for all the help guys.
