Hi guys
When I turn on my PC, after my bios comes up, there are a white line "--" on the left hand corner of my screen that flickers for at least 2min. That line comes up on all PC but only for 2sec why does mine take so long. When I have XP on my PC its fine, but not with Windows 7

PC Specs:
Intel D945GTP Motherboard
320GB SATA2 HD
2GB DDR 2 Memory
HD4650 Radeon Graphics Card
Intel Dual Core 3.4GHz CPU
Windows 7

Something you have installed that runs at start up could be causing this. In my case it was temperature monitoring software. As soon as I uninstalled it the problem went away.

To diagonose what is causing the problem run msconfig then disable all programs in startup. Re-enable one by one and restart until you find the problem child
see link for instructions

I have already tried that, but it does not work. It must be something on Windows 7 because XP never gives me that problem. What is that line doing anyway.

Safe mode & check where it is being delayed using that verbose startup.

I clicked on this topic because of the ***'s
And I'm much less likely to provide a proper answer to thread's with thread titles that are ALL CAPS or full of other junk that makes reading the thread list more difficult.

Is this before the Windows 7 loading logo appears? Then it has nothing to do with software installed in Windows 7...
Check your BIOS to see your boot device order. Your computer is possibly trying to boot from other devices before your hard drive. It's especially noticeable if you leave a dodgy CD in your drive, it takes forever for your computer to figure out that it isn't bootable and move on to the next device.

sounds like you have a crt monitor and that when in windows you set the horizontal refresf rate to a high number, say 80MHz and that this rate has been set as the default in your monitor. When you reboot, the signal is set at a lower rate, 60Hz, so the monitor can't lock in to it, then once windows changes the video settings it once again locks in.

A quick fix would be to turn the monitor off, wait 30 secs, then on again, prior to rebooting the PC.
