Windows 7

Thanks for the small icon tip. Much Better :)

The only other thing irritating me (perhaps I'm missing something) is previously, on the quick launch, you could have a whole bunch of programs just by clicking the little double arrow. Now anything I "pin" to the quicklaunch is showing all the time. There are about 10 apps I want to show in the quick launch ... is there a way I can put them in little double arrows?

Not sure about quicklaunch. I normally just hit windows key and then start typing the application's name and then enter.

My other favorite shortcuts are:
* windows key + arrow to split/maximize/move windows to another monitor
* windows key + p to turn on clone/extend/etc. options for multiple monitors.

Also the networking side of things is greatly improved in windows 7 - making connecting to wireless networks, etc. a lot easier.

Wow - I really do sounds like a fanboy!

I installed Win7 32-bit on the Asus W5F notebook. Everything worked fine - it found the wifi, audio, bluetooth, etc. The only driver I had to install was for the Bison integrated webcam.

But I just couldn't get the machine to see the bluetooth travel mouse. I fiddled with bluetooth for about 20 minutes, trying this and that, to no avail. Why is bluetooth still such a %#$@ fiddle?!!

Then I saw Add Device at the top of Devices and Printers. I clicked it, and within moments it found the mouse and connected. I felt stupid - how did I miss such an obvious thing? This is small, but impressive.

BTW, the W5F feels slighly snappier than with XP Pro.

I did a clean install of Win7 x64 Pro on several desktops at home, all without issue. Everything feels cleaner than the previous Vista on these machines.

I'm lazy ... typing requires more than 1 finger and is less productive for me :p

I am not sure what you mean eitai about the double arrow thing?

I put my taskbar with all my pinned items on top and i make it hide, which gives me more screen space as well.

Like on XP or Vista, you have like 4 quick launch items or so, and a little double arrow that you click to show you the rest.

Yea but that has been replaced by the new one in windows 7, the most irritating thing for me was when i had a few pages or apps open and sitting on the taskbar, now i just pin what i want and if more than one instance is open it does not clog up your taskbar.

I am glad they did away with the old system and have this new taskbar, it is the only reason i could not run vista or xp again. I love it so much :D

Lol ... I dig the new system, but would still like to have an "Extra Items Quicklaunch" or something.

Everything is quick launch now though, just click and it opens :)

Pin all your stuff you use to the taskbar and hide it, then just go click on it. Anyways guess we all have our likes and dislikes :D

I sorted out the quick launch, cant remember where exactly, but my taskbar is pretty much standard like XP and Vista. Also didnt like the grouped box, preferred the arrows to unhide/hide.

One disapppointment is that Acronis True Image Echo Workstation is blocked by Win7 x64. This is an indispensible app for me. I'll try the new Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation, and if that works I'll have to upgrade. No wonder ISV's love a new rev of Windows...

ya Windows 7 just rules in so many practical and aesthetic aspects :)

but i'v been having browsing problems i just can't find a solution for.

My IE8 and Firefox 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 crash often...too often

I've tried disabling all add-ons, still no good :(

Im considering loading that slow Chrome, but im thinking this isn't a specific Browser issue and sumtn else rather...

Anyone experience something similar?

I had an IE8 problem which was caused by installing a really old (1999) Creative web cam. I restored to a point prior to the creative install, confirmed that ie8 worked correctly, made a backup of the whole registry, once again installed creative (problems reappeared) the restored the registry. Got a whole bunch of error/warning that various items couldn't be restored, which I ignored, as all I wanted to do was replace any pre-existant entries which were changed by creative.

I now have a working web cam and IE8.

Maybe trying something along these lines will help you.

You have a point. It worked fine in Vista64 and Vista32. Also worked fine in the various Win7 betas.

Windows 7 and vista are basically the same, seems strange microsoft would block it, makes sense acronis does because they want you to buy an upgrade more than likely stating it is not compatible.

I'm still running the first release candidate and it's working like a dream. I used to have 1GB of memory on my lappie but upgraded today to 2GB made a huge difference.

Right click on taskbar = Taskbar and Start Menu Properties
Under Taskbar Tab > Notification Area = Click on "Customize"
At bottom of Customize = Check "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar"

Done

Sweet....

Edit: PS, they always stay open, does not hide unused icons....
