Windows 8.1 Preview is available for everyone

Just had a quick look at the new start button. Nothing impressive. I was over the start button though. Quite happy with Alt+Q/W.
Watched a video on YouTube and there are some nice features added. Will fiddle more this evening and get a more complete feel for the changes.

Ah ok cool. I wasn't even aware of the Alt + Q/W, thanks, I will go check that out tonight. Much better than dragging your mouse to the corner of the screen ;)

My bad. Not Alt + Q/W. Win key + Q/W.
Sigh...

No worries, don't know why I typed Alt either, I read Win from the start as well  It's a slow morning. I Googled it anyway after your post to see what it does ;)

I really liked Windows 8 at first, sold it to most of my clients - they loved it.
It runs fast and well.

Only issue i had was compatibility with MANY programs and performance issues with some games.

It's fine for Office/Home use but if you are a gamer, developer or programmer then stick with Win7.
I'd like to try out this update

Huh? I am a gamer (some times) and developer (14 hours a day) and have zero problems with Win 8?
VS2010 and VS2012, SQL 2008 and SQL 2012. All running with no issues.

Curious why you advise staying away from it if a gamer or developer.

OT but I watched the video in the myBB news article and nearly wet myself laughing.

The only thing I have heard about Win 8.1 is that the start button is back which was some really exciting news for some. Bit of a troll move that the start button opens the normal start screen that people love to hate... But hey, a button makes everything better :)

Same here, will go as far as to say that Windows 8 is faster then windows 7. Not a single compatibility issue for me.
