I have a new note book with windows 8 installed. I am running office 2007.
On my old desk top and note book I had XP an Office 2001 I think. I have been using Out Look express for years and prefer it to Outlook. Is there any way of running Out Look express on windows 8?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The replacement is called Windows Live Mail and it is basically the new version of Outlook express. It is part of Windows Essentials and it works great with Windows 8 in the desktop environment. Just search for Windows Essentials. I use it on my Windows 8 desktop machine. On my tablet I prefer using the new mail client that comes with Windows 8.1.

Windows 8/8.1 comes with a Mail Metro application. OE got canned after XP and was replaced with a Mail app in Vista. That also got canned and replaced by a Windows Live Essentials Mail app. I think the latest is Live Essentials 2012. You can try installing that in Win 8.

I definitely don't recommend using Windows Live Mail - it's horrendous. Yes it is the closest equivalent to Outlook Express which was discontinued after Windows XP, but it's terrible in terms of stability and general bugginess.

I recommend installing Thunderbird instead which is quite similar-looking to OE and free from www.getthunderbird.com

My Windows live mail has yet to crash and I've never seen any bugs.

Has anyone else had problems with Windows Live Mail?
Anyone else using Thunderbird?

Thanks for the feedback.

I am also wanting to move all my existing emails to the new program. Will they both allow this?

Live Mail looks a lot "nicer" than Thunderbird but doesn't come close in features. If you only really need a basic email app then I don't see any issue using Live Mail.

If you want something with tons of cool available add-ons then go for Thunderbird, it's a great mail app.

Another option is eM Client.
