The best option is to include both types in a single installer, and automatically use the correct one. For a clean install that would be based on what the hardware supports and for an upgrade it would be based on what is already installed. Asking the user, whether at the download stage or during install, can only confuse users who know nothing about these things and don't care.

Agree with you here. My whole point was just this, give the user an option. Microsoft cannot assume they are making it easy for the user by doing this as users like myself are upgrading from an old 32-bit to a new 64-bit PC. If I did not have a x64 laptop how would I ever have been able to download the correct ISO. It just seems silly.

Another problem I picked up last night on Windows 8.1. My Intel G3220 processor integrated graphics driver is causing no sound through HDMI issues, also causing Windows to recommend a resolution of 1280x720 on a full HD TV. From various forums it seems this is a common issue with many different Intel HD graphics on Windows 8.1. I now have to spend the evening trying to get sound on my TV. Previous Windows versions (bar Vista) never really had so much issues.
