Hmmm I wonder if they will allow you to upgrade Win 7 32Bit to Win 8 64 Bit :)

Hmmm.

Everything's shaping up.

Lining up my pocket change.

Now for a confirmation of whether or not current WP7/WP7.5 phones will be getting a WP8 upgrade when WP8 is released.

Retail. I would go with no
With a new PC. Yep no question.

Thank you.

Reason I asked is that I am extremely happy with Windows 7. It functions beautifully on my machine and was trying to think possible reasons to move.

Personally I think Windows 8 is a proper Troll, the interface is kuk imo, will be sicking with Windows 7 for a while longer :D

I don't see why not. If you have win7 32 bit, you can run the 64 bit version
Usually you cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit operating systems. Usually you have to reinstall.

Surely they might allow you to purchase a 64-bit version as an upgrade to your current 32-bit version of Windows 7 if that is what you're asking...

I still have to find a favorable review of Win 8.

There seem to be a few around - probably paid for by MS.

Now all those programs you have used for months and years are "legacy" apps, destined for the big bit-bucket in the sky.

I predict mediocre sales and the demise of Steve Ballmer as CEO. The sooner the better really - they smoke their socks at MS these days.

Really? I watched a number of YouTube reviews yesterday and most were favourable. Strange. Every one commented on the speed with which things open.

Running W8 on my home comp now... nothing special but pretty cool..

Call me old fashioned but that, to me, is exactly what a OS should be like. It is not meant to be in your face but rather just easily facilitate your interactions with the computer.

There's a reason for that. Windows 7 users won't like it in terms of how the Metro interface puts a spanner in productivity. Windows XP users might move to Windows 7 after trying out 8, or they might move to OS X or Linux, seeing as how use-cases have changed significantly with a great deal of things that can be done in the cloud. If you've got a user upgrading to a new OS but finds that there's a fairly large learning curve, there's a chance they'll have a look around and might move to another platform.

People new to computers or Windows 8, on the other hand, who have never used any of the previous incarnations, might find something to like. Likewise, people new to 8 will also have a tough time when they buy an ARM tablet and realise that many of the apps out there wont' work on their system. The best Microsoft could do for ARM tablets is have an API to simulate an Android environment to allow Windows 8 to run Android apps from the Marketplace, in the same manner that RIM and Boot-to-Gecko is planning.

What's the big issue? You NEVER upgrade to a new OS until at least 6 months after it's out. With cars you wait until the first facelift

You can now register for the upgrade offer.
