Is it me or does Windows 8 still have a propensity to suck.

Friday I had to install .net framework 3.5 which by default isn't installed in a typical Windows 8 installation.

With that said, I normally find Windows 8 incredibly fast without tweaks compared to a Windows 7 variant loaded with unneeded processes. But it's totally unstable as hell.

Now, I really don't think any Windows version "sucks" it's either people's impairment to grasp newer OS systems or are ignorantly lazy, failing to adapt.

Conclusion in my perspective and preference, there's a fine line between 7 and 8.

I just couldn't bring myself to like Win8. The UI simply kept getting me down. I had it installed for about three months and hoped it would grow on me, but it never did.

I don't mind change, but Win8 was simply cumbersome to use. Don't think it's quite an issue with nostalgia either. Win7 isn't that old. :p

For now Win7 suits all my needs, so I'll stick to it until the next Windows iteration or see if Valve's new SteamOS is any good.

Win 8.1 + Classic shell and all your UI complaints = Null and void.

Get the speed with the UI you love and stop bitching :)

This. Had to do this to some new office machines, freaking cumbersome having to hack the OS though.

No hacking needed, its in my normal Ninite exe

Just install it with all the other apps I normally drop in on a fresh install like 7zip and so on.

I know what you mean but in my eye's Windows 8 replaced items I normally dropped in. Transcopy + AV

Not exactly what I meant. I mean that I have to use third party apps and registry keys to get the make the PC behave like we want it to.

Yeah, program / game capability issues seem the with 8

Whilst I resolve my own issues being savvy, for the average user out there, you have to shed a bit of sympathy lolz

Tutut..microsoft......

That too. Older games ran like crap on Win8 on my machine. Arcanum, Sanitarium, Planescape Torment and Thief Gold all gave me consistently low FPS, which it isn't doing now that I've got Win7 installed again. There's probably more games that give issues, but I didn't bother trying out any others on the OS.

No thanks. Keep your Win8. I see absolutely no reason to use it when Win7 works so well.

So there are people out there who feel the same way I do about Win8. :)

Unless you have a touchscreen, I can see no real reason to "upgrade".

That was my main complaint on 8 as well, it did not last long cause I could not play my fav classics like Homeworld and Dungeon Keeper even with the fixes that worked in 7. I am glad to report that it was no longer an issue with 8.1. Don't know wth they did with 8 but for some reason it broke everything older than 4 years.

I....must....install....windows....8

But I simply can't. As a lifelong Mac user, I gotta say that Win 7 is rock solid and a pleasure to use. I have always had to mess about with various versions of 'doze and 7 is BY FAR my favourite.

I see Makro is dumping to 8 upgrades for R700 - maybe I will swing by and pick it up and give it a bash.

I get the impression Windows 7 is the next Windows XP. It's going to take an unrelenting force for faithful users to shed the skin of the famed, reliable, and stable 7 over probably 8 and 9 and probably even beyond.

Even to this day I know of a lot people still on XP boxes.

For me though, I always stay updated and adapt to to newer OS systems.

I think it really has a lot to do with the needs of the user at the end of it all. All versions of Windows serve different purposes, for instance XP is great to exploit and embarrass Microsoft with. Vista is nice if you want to burn load and test your CPU.

7 is great for just about anything.

8... this is great for a hair trim because one tends to pull most of it out ;)

Upgraded to Windows 8 and hated it as I was keep getting problems and random crashes got so close to reverting back to Windows 7. Decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and so far no problem running smoother than my windows 7 box.
