I see a few makers have announced products like this. Does anybody know when we may expect a windows based tablet pc with usb ports in South Africa?

They've been on the market for several years already, first with Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and now with Windows 7.

They're proper PC's, not giant cellphones. They became scarcer when netbooks became popular but you can still find some online. Check out for example HP's website.

Interesting... why have they not been a big hit? To me having a fully functional windows based ipad type PC on the move would be winner! Especially since they have a longer battery life compared to netbooks.

As far as i know the windows based tablets did NOT have a longer battery life compared to most laptops let alone netbooks.

Windows based tablets been on the market since 2001. If they where going to take off they would have done so already.

they run on x86/x64 which is ap power hungry architecture vs arm (read x86/x64 processors are more power hungry than ARM)

therefore windows is more power hungry than other ARM based OSes

suitable for enterprize, not suitable for mainstream market

microsoft windows was not designed to be a touchscreen OS in the first place, it sucks as one let me tell you that much

The best one you can get out there (my personal opinion) being a big wacom fan is this one: http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/Cintiq/Cintiq21UX.aspx
I absolutely love their tablets and this one is super awesome and fast, even though it isn't mobile. There is a mobile version that's a bit smaller but sports the same tech and everything: http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/Cintiq/Cintiq12WX.aspx (I might be wrong on this though)

I know this is a bit off subject but toshiba have these laptops that come built in with a wacom tablet. Core i7 laptops, with built in tablet and 17'' screen? For around R31 000 in SA.
