Hi all and thanks for your help.
Setup:
Windows 11 64-Bit with most recent updates installed.
NAS: Western Digital My Book Live Duo; RAID 1 (Support Discontinued.)
As users I have myself: deonh with no password required.
Drive A: Good & Drive B: Failed
I can access my NAS' UI by putting in the NAS' IP address in the browser.
It shows this message: RAID is still operational, but the faulty drive must be replaced to preserve your data. (What a relief.)
I bought a 4TB Seagate IRONWOLF NAS HDD.
I did the following yesterday morning: This drive I installed in B-slot after removing the failed drive after shutting down the NAS and removed LAN & Power cables.
I plugged in the LAN cable and right after the the power cable and the NAS started to boot up. (It doesn't have a power button.) It booted up and after a minute or so, the LED indicator turned groom green to amber to red. I understand the Red since the RAID failed. I left it until about 10:00 this morning with the light stil red. On the UI Drive be status: Failed.
I shut down the NAS through the UI and removed the new drive in bay B and powered it up again. I remember that I could access al my files on the NAS having mapped the NAS: \\mynasname\PC_Backups
When I only put \\mynasname in WIN file explorer, I see the four public folders which the NAS created when I initially setup the NAS. These I can access without a problem. But, I don't have any data there.
When I try to access my backed up files, I get this error: Windows cannot access \\mynasname\PC_Backups I need to access my files to save on my PC
I know it has to do with permissions. I need to access these files because I want to do a full Factory Restore since my NAS was not rebuilt in 24 hours.
I'm sure it has something to do with permissions and file sharing because I had to make some setting-changes when I got my new PC about 3 years ago.
I will really appreciate it if someone can help me solve this or help me get the B-Drive to take or whatever it is called the RAID from Drive A.
I read on a post that there is a chance that I can access the data with a cross-over LAN cable direct connection between my PC and LAN. But I don't have a cross-over LAN cable.
Please advise.
Thanks a million.
