FFS!!!!! Stupid f#@%ken Seagate *****.
I hope the person/s in charge of Seagate's Qualiy control hope your genetals rot off while you sleep.

Ok after all the flames towards Seagate any suggestions for hard drives??
How is Western Digital now a days compared to Seagate?

I am not wasting money on another Seagate any time soon. I checked the 500GB Seagate serial number on Seagate's website when I got it in January 2010 "Hard drive not affected" Yeah F@$KEN right my a$$

Had another 500GB last year which was affected with the Firmware problem but it was dead and replaced before Seagate announced the Firmware problem on their website.
My friend bought his Seagate hard drive in January 2010 with me on same order.. 2 weeks back his hard drive just died, not even spinning up anymore while he was working, no warning even.
Now mine comes up with this everytime I start the PC up "Windows detected a hard disk problem"
Scandisk does nothing allthough I expected it not to do anything.

If the BIOS sees the hard drive then you are not experiencing the firmware bug. This might just be a software issue.

This hard drive don't have firmware bug, I know that cause I'm in Windows backing up stuff, but allready scanned and found bad sectors + windows keeps reminding me that it detected a hard disk problem.. So it is a hardware problem.. Stupid F00king Seagate rubbish

hehe, and as I posted a week or so ago, st00pid seagate distributor (Ingram Micro aka StorGate) are fsking useless. They flatly refuse to even attempt to recover data... bastids...

xD Don't feel bad my seagate also came from Ingram Micro.. I'm just lucky I can still browse hard drive and most stuff copy.. just got a bunch of bad sectors and windows keeps saying detect hard drive problem

mmm, nah dont feel too bad... there was nothing really irrecoverable on the HDD (it was in a media center PC). Basically, lost around 100GB of movies, and had to reinstall the OS. Luckily, with uncapped now, it is not that big an issue otherwise 100 x R29 = R2900 :P

What irritated me was the complete lack of motivation to even attempt to help a client out. At least make some kind of effort...

Western Digital all the way for me - been using them for many years now and no failures to date - my PC's and drives are on 24/7.

I suppose I'll stay with them until there is an epic failure...

:D
This only happens with Windows hey..... with Linux I never get any such errors. Also, checking my drive with Linux tools doesn't show any issues with my drives whatsoever.

Yeah linux don't tell you when the drive is busy dying, it only dies without warning xD :D

Windows: Get HDDscan (hddguru.com), run as administrator, and check the SMART values. I also had a Seagate 7200.11 500GB which lasted approx 8 months. One day Windows 7 said it was going to crash and sure thing, it did an hour later.

Linux: I'm sure one of the gui apps + smartd can be rigged together to give you warning of pending failure.

Most/All distributors will not recover your data for you (you may, however, ask to take the drive to a recovery specialist).

Lol was just joking about Linux, it's not that bad, i've played around with it, but for gaming and stuff I'll rather stay with Windows soo much easier for me, old dog can't learn new trick (Or new OS :D )

I'm trying to get the supplier to swop out the hard drive this week while the drivers are at the suppliers. I emailed the seatools error log to my suppliers. If I'm lucky I can get new HDD same day then. O and the supplier where the hdd was bought at was TVR apparently not Ingram Micro.. But still I'm pi$$ed at Seagate this is not cool.

My next HDD's will be Western Digital, Seagate just lost another customer

I'm still Seagate all the way. The new 7200.12 drives are lightning fast... I still refuse to use Seagate for laptop drives tho, I'm using a WD 7200 drive for my lappie, best HDDs for laptops IMO. Using a Seagate 320GB 2.5" as my external with a Seagate 1TB for backup. My father has backups of all our hard drives on our server at home... Which houses a few WD Cheetah drives hahaha
