Windows directory is gone

How did this happen. My windows directory is gone. It's not in my Local C: Hard drive. Also my Run command on the start menu is gone. OOPS.

I assume then that your windows is not booting at all? Otherwise it might just be hidden.

Could it be virus activity? What anti-virus are you using? is it up to date? when last did you run a scan? What programs have you installed lately?

How old is your hard disk?

Windows boots perfect. Everything works fine. Running Avast free edition AV and also Superanti-spyware. All up to date. Scheduled scans everyday.

I'll just format and re-install everything.

No, don't format and install - try iolo's System Mechanic first to see if anything's funny.

Might be a corrupt Registry setting somewhere... blah, in which case you can just as well reinstall...

If your Windows is booting fine, then the directory is not gone, just hidden.

Then you have a virus of some sorts. There was a thread about it some months ago.
