I have a client who has a laptop with a legal copy of Windows 7 Enterprise installed on it. The client does not want the Enterprise version and wants to down grade to Home Premium. The question is, can this be legally done without having to buy a new copy of Windows 7 Home Premium? I know certain versions of Windows are down gradeable. Is Win 7 Enterprise one of them.

Why does he want to downgrade?

Enterprise is just the business version of ultimate.

Thanks for the info. Had a feeling the why question was going to crop up and unfortunately I don't know the answer. It has got something to do with the company the client used to work for and the way the installation is configured, which does not make sense but there it is. Thanks again.

AFAIK Enterprise versions of desktop Windows are an upgrade only license anyway so it is only licensed for a device that has some other Windows license already.

Of course, I have never been to Microsoft Licensing University so there might well be a good deal like action pack or some other racket that they have running that excepts this.

Suspect he no longer works for the company that owns the license and has to remove it from his laptop.
