Hi Ladies and Gents,

I have encountered an error from Windows on one of my servers and cant seem to sort it out.

The error is as follows:
MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ RUNTIME LIBRARY
Runtime Error
Program: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way

If anyone can PLEASE assist me with getting rid of this i would really appreciate it! It is preventing me from running my Roster programs and interfering with other software.

P.S> Running Windows 7 Professional x86

Wait, what?

Your post does not make sense.

First you say

...from Windows on one of my servers...

and then you say

Windows7 is NOT a server OS. Server 2003 or Server 2008 is a server program.

By the by, is the roster program (and others) 32-bit?

You might have some issues with trying to run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit OS...

Click Start, and type in 'event'. Select Event Viewer. In the Application or System event under 'Windows Logs', check for an error at about the the time when you experience the crash. The Event should contain information about the crash. Post it here and we can help further.

as Librarian says, Windows 7 is not a server OS. You shouldn't expect Win7 to give you the same performance as a server OS does.

Most common cause for explorer.exe crashes is a virus. Run a scan of the drive from a clean machine if possible.

Otherwise it's most likely an addin that's causing it. Fixing/diagnosing it can be a pain though. Example of an addin is a codec to show video previews instead of icons - if codec crashes it takes explorer with it (obviously not relevant to your "server", just giving an example).

Since it's not a server OS you could try a system restore to a few days previously.

My server runs Windows 7 PRO and not Server 03 or 08. I can see why you got confused...

So let me re-phrase that: My PC which is acting as a camera server and running Windows 7 PRO x86 is giving me the errors stated in OP.

The Roster Program and Others are 32bit softwares...

I will go take a look now and see what i can find...

Uninstall all Internet Explorer toolbars.
Old versions of "Google Toolbar" were a popular culprit.

Could also be old (outdated) graphics drivers (Nvidia or Ati) or mouse/touchpad/audio drivers
Make sure you have the latest/greatest versions.

Download "Spybot Search & Destroy"
update & run it & make sure you don't have any "nasties" hiding somewhere.

final option, enable "Data Execution Prevention" for everything.
my computer
properties
advanced system settings
performance
data execution prevention
click on "turn on DEP for all programs and services except those that I specify"
do not specify anything, click OK
reboot.

if it crashes again see which application is specified.
uninstall it.
turn DEP back.
reboot

Will give this a try tomorrow. Thanks for the advice!

I looked in my Win Events and have a feeling that it's a component that relates to Axis Media Control Software (For CCTV Cameras).

I am awaiting feedback from the developers and will take things from there. Hopefully i can come to a fix for this!
