Hi there. Don't know if this is the right section but I'm having this issue with windows home server 2011. I can't access shares even when I enter the administrator account. I tried disabling the password protection share and also with it enabled. The only way I can have access is if I add the local user account from the dashboard. I also tried form 10 other PC's

Please assist

Regards

Howzit, homee!

Let me help you dawg.

Is the server on? Is the shares working on the server? Can you ping the server?

yes I can ping the server etc etc. shares is on. I actually figured out that you need to add user with the exact same details as your local pc login. now it works. But still I don't like the way it works

Well was just wondering to give it a go myself or not, but clearly you are a "great" network administrator and would not need any help ( and how could you expect to get help ) with such and crappy attitude. Hope choke on your valentines sweets you bought for yourself because no one else can stand you.

I use it extensively. It's been discontinued in lieu of Windows Storage Essentials though.

That's not necessary. If you were a competent network admin, you'd know that this is just a workaround. The actual problem is why the server isn't prompting you for login credentials if the user you are using to access the share with does not have the correct permissions. It could be that credentials are saved for the network path, either from accessing it earlier, or trying to map it as a network drive during debugging. Check net use.

But you probably already knew that.

Edit: Or, you are actually authenticating, but the user you're authenticating with doesn't have the necessary permissions to access the share. Check the WHS Dashboard for the user account you're loggin in with.
