I've got a site that somebody developed for me...
The hosts have stuffed up the permissions on the mssql db and I can't do anything to fix it without rdp, a remote connection or a webmin tool (plesk isn't cooperating).
They aren't being particularly effective at fixing it from their side either.
First they messed up the iis site config and now they've messed up the mail config.
These guys are serious rocket scientists.

Anybody know a reliable & affordable windows hosting solution with rdp/remote mssql login?

shot thanks.

Ok, I've asked my host. I'll post back here when I get an answer. I have an affiliate link on my site, or if you prefer I can give you a clean link if I get the correct response from them.

lol. i see you use circle.
me too for my private stuff. they just recently closed remote mssql access unfortunately on their shared hosting.
they're willing to open up to specified static addresses, but i'm on dynamic ip thru dsl obviously.
the plesk interface to restore a backed up db hasn't worked for me on any host. unless you know some way to restore an entire db through c#...?

Yeah, I didn't want to make it seem I was pushing my affiliate link. :)

Would they open up to a dynamic-ip hostname? And no to the other question about restoring through C#. Not off the top of my head, anyway. What about backups?

Thanks. But I should imagine this runs locally and requires remote access for a remote db.
I really don't feel like hacking that code to run via the web server...
Although I'm sure it's possible :D
I've sent a mail to circle to see if they can do something with the remote access permissions.

I'm also looking for a Windows host. You'll vouch for Circle, Raithlin? Any chance of them offering .net 4?

It took them a while to get 3.5 (although not too long, IIRC), but in terms of service, uptime, etc. I've had no problems in what is now almost 2 years. I had a few DNS requests that they handled beautifully (sub-domains pointing to Google Apps), and quickly. We had a speed problem early on, but that was resolved when we were upgraded to new servers.

Fair enough. I'd like to use MVC 2, that's why I was asking about .4.

Taking your advice though, even if it's just 3.5 the moment.

Thanks.

I got a response back (and an apology for the delay) - it turns out Circle allows remote DB, but not remote desktop. No further details, like restricted to static IP, etc. Did you come right?

yeah, it's restricted to static ip.
most shared hosts seem to be going this way.
well, windows shared hosting certainly...
tx.
