PROBLEM:
When attempting to install Windows with an Asus motherboard using an external optical drive, the installation couldn't proceed due to the intended destination hard drive not being recognised, as if it required drivers to be specified via the F6 command. No such drivers were however available.
SOLUTION:
Plugging the external optical drive into a USB2 instead of USB3 port on the motherboard resolved the problem - destination hard disk visible with no additional drivers required. There was no error message indicating that the use of a USB3 port could be the cause.
