Morning Gents,

Got a 200GB SATA that i'm trying too install XP on.

I connected the drive, boot into my existing XP installation and XP see's it as a 200GB drive.

If i try and run a fresh installation on the 200GB SATA drive XP Installation only see's it as a 137GB drive, any idea why?

the original xp only support up to 137gb... (no 48bit lba addressing)
after sp1, that is not a problem

so, download sp1 or sp2 and slipstream it into your installation media (if this is alien to you, go download nlite, it will help you automate this)

or try find someone with a newer installation cd...

third option, install it as 137gb and then stretch to 200 gb with partition magic

That's really interesting... I never new that. What a pathetic limit, it's not like MS wasn't expecting drives bigger than 140GB

thanx gents, installed SP2 and it's picked up the remainding GB's.....
now to get hold of a partitioning tool too merge the two :D

Do that before you put anything else on that drive. Chances are High that something might go wrong when merging your C:\. Hope you like your new Drive :D

You can do that through the disk manager. (rclick my computer, manage)

I don't think you can change the size of your system partition... you'll probably need to use Partition Magic, and hope it doesn't freak out. I've lost plenty data, back in the days of PM4 and Win98.

disk manager doesnt allow you to change settings on your system drive, ie. C:

as Carlhead said, you need a 3rd party app to do it.

I have never had partinion magic increase the size or merge with c: correctly, always stuffed up. Rather format with XP SP2 integrated (Unsing nlite) and you will be a for okay

seems quite interesting this "nlite", will def keep it in mind for the next installation. But so far i haven't come across any problems after merging the 2 partitions, holding thumbs....
