I have been having a issue for a while now with the E220 USB modem with VMC Lite 3.2.1 on a laptop or desktop with vista as the operating system.

It starts the software installation but after a few minutes you get a windows installer error message and you can't complete the installation.

I have tried a couple of modems some of them with different firmware (11.110.05.00.00 & 11.117.09.04.01.00) but they all give the same error message with VMC Lite 3.2.1 as the dashboard.

If I downgrade the software to VMC Lite 2.2.2.1 it installs the dashboard no problem.

So what is the issue with VMC Lite 3.2.1 and Vista.

What is the error message?

Did you uninstall 2.2.2.1 before you installed 3.2.1?

i did uninstall vmc lite 2.2.2.1 because if you try to install vmc lite 3.2.1 while 2.2.2 is still on the machine it says that it detects a previous version of the software.

Windows Installer Package could not be updated please contact you vendor or supplier for further assisstance.

So Sorry this is the correct error message you get on the vista machine:

"error 1721 there is a problem with windows installer package a program required for this install to complete could not be run"

After you uninstall VMC check program files to see if it has not left a directory behind. I had a similar problem once where it was trying to launch an older file in the VMC directory while performing the installation.

Also check for any weird programs running in the background.

I had a weird error on my cousins computer, that wouldn't let me install VMC Lite 3.2.1. There was a resident program called "FixCamera.exe" running that was causing problems. Something to do with his webcam. Once I disabled the program from Task Manager, VMC Lite installed fine.

So just check for and disable any weird programs running in the background. I also usually disable my virus scanner and spyware scanner, as the VMC program makes changes to the registry and I always get that pop up, do you want to make changes.

Just a thought.
