Windows Installer Problem.

Ok, so with a fresh install of Windows, certain programmes just won't install (Pastel, Nokia Route66, etc). With Pastel, it gave some runtime error and now with the Nokia thing, it started installing .Net 2.0 and then stopped with this error -

Component .Net Framework 2.0 has failed to install with the following error message: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer Service is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"

The following components failed to install:

Any advie on what I could do/try would be extremely helpful. Btw, it is Windows XP (SP1 only).

Download SP3. Download Framework 2.0 again.

Yeah definitey get SP3, or SP2 atleast.
