Hi

When I try to shutdown my laptop a windows installer pops up and wants to install something...I don't know what...It comes up when the shutting down screen appears. Is there some why to remove this? I am using windows xp pro

Thank you

Maybe its updates that want to install.
Go into control panel and system then automatic updates and turn it off.

can be anything. does it happen everytime you shut down or did it happen only this once?

Windows update won't appear as a install like a program, although they are shipped using msi's.

almost everytime I want to shutdown the laptop. You can press cancel but the computer never shuts

Hmmm

Go to start --> run

type in GPedit.msc and navigate to Computer Configuration --> Windows Settings and select 'Scripts (Startup/shutdown)'

check if there's anything in the shutdown section and if there is... remove it

Hope that helps :D
