I use Windows Live Messenger 8.1. I can chat to people via text message but for some reason I cannot make a call.
WHen the other person accepts the call, it says "connecting to Johnnny..." but then when a few seconds later it says "call ended".

I then did a test in WLM, if I go to Tools > Options > Connection > Advanced Settings > and click on TCP "Test" at the top, I get the following message:
"Resolving the server name.... Connecting to the server... we are unable to connect (8007274d)."

I'd appreciate it if some of you who also use Windows Live Messenger can follow those same steps and report here what message you get, when you've done the TCP Test as mentioned above?
(preferable if you use XP as well)

I have SAIX ADSL, use a Netgear DG834GT router with my laptop connected to the router via LAN. The router has UPnP enabled and the UPnP services in Windows XP are also enabled (SSDP and Univeral Plug and Play Host).

I sometimes have difficulty connecting to WLM but it usually works after the 2nd try. Also, when I'm connected, I sometimes disconnect and then it automatically re-connects. But I suppose that's another issue.

My main concern is to find the problem so that when I am connected, I can make a call and speak on audio. This always used to work before but I haven't used WLM for a few weeks and now the calling bit doesn't work anymore.
Other than enabling UPnP on the router and in XP, I don't know what else to do to make it work.
I also disabled my ZoneAlarm firewall and I still get the same problem.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

I get "Resolving the server name... Connecting to the server... Connected, verifying ability to send data now... Success, you can connect to the windows live messenger service... ." So I'm not quite sure whats wrong with yours. :)

There was a problem too which I faces while recording a video conversation in MSN messenger while I was chatting one of my friend regarding some market swings. The program that I used to record the video conversation is called ( MSN web cam recorder ). Now that the videos are saved, they got saved in ML20 format file and I can't play them with any of my video players I tried using Windows Media Player, RealOne Player and Divx Player and may be few others players too. Then onwards I leave using MSN for such purposes and am using Rhubcom's appliance for hassle free conferencing and subsequent recordings whenever needed..

That's the common problem with freewares. See even with skype one normally faces issues as he can't see other person often but the person on the other side is getting a clear streaming....I am not sure of the exact solution but I think reinstalling the software or looking for updates might make it function. I personally use Gomeetnow for over 7 months now for professiona as well as personal interactions so haven't used to such problems.

I had this problem with my Telkom router.....They came out and disabled/recofigured the NAT device. I dont know the technicallities.

Apparently, messenger need a return IP address and the NAT does not route back to the local IP address....more than that I know not, sorry:o
