Windows Media Center Extender & Xbox 360

That media extender stuff is built into Windows Media Player 11. If you install that (and use it to catalog your mp3s and videos etc) then plug in your xbox to your local router / hub - the pc detects the xbox and the content can be browsed / played from the xbox.

It is rather confusing I must admit as the Extender used to be a seperate piece of software (from the links and stuff I read) but then it was discontinued in that form and just rolled up in Media Player 11 and Vista etc.

Hope it helps. There are a few little things about authorising your xbox, but media player will take you through that when you plug the xbox onto your lan.
 
Unfortunately Digilus you're wrong and that's why the videos are important.

MC extender and WMP 11/Tversity DLNA are not the same. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Living_Network_Alliance

The 360 & PS3 can hook a DLNA host as can a few other devices, but MCE is a GUI client more akin to terminal services than anything else. It also includes plug-in functionality for things like a Web Browser on you 360.

Watch the videos, that's my suggestion.

you are confusing extender with the old "windows media connect" software, which WAS rolled up into WMP11

this is something else.
it is one thing to be a upnp server (which you are talking about), being a proper windows media center extender is another realm.

but similar in result, so i can understand your confusion
