What am I doing wrong or is this how it works:

I have an XBOX 360 connected to Win7 PC that has Windows media centre running. All is working great, until I reboot the PC or switch off the XBOX, then I have to keep on adding the XBOX as an extender again each time when I switch it back on, it never saves the config.

Help!!

thanks

also check if your xbox software is upto date, it might be missing something with regards to win 7. also is the xbox installed as a valid media centre extender.

i know this doesnt solve your problem but check if the xbox picks up your PC under my videos or my music (sorry my xbox is at home and im at work) you can stream your files that way, it runs faster then with media centre and all you need to do is make sure WMP 11 has those files in its library and the xbox will pick it up. also this way you can play avi files, with media centre it can only stream WMV files.

I think you might be doing something wrong. Give me us much detail as you can and I will see if I can assist. If you can add some screenshots, then it will help a lot as well :)

OK, Not sure if this will be enough to help, let me know if there is anything specific info that would help further.

- I am using windows 7 ultimate
- XBOX is connected directly to PC via network cable.
- XBOX is configured with IP 10.0.0.1 / 255.0.0.0 GW 10.0.0.2
- PC network card is configured with 10.0.0.2 / 255.0.0.0

I load the XBOX up, go to media center, it tests the network etc, network is fine, internet fails - this is fine - not connecting to XBOX live, setup new connection and then I get the 8 digit 9999-9999 code.

On PC, I go to media center, then select settings -> extender - > add extender - > enter the eight digits and then it all connects and all works groovy, until something is switched off.

Thanks for the help, I hope this is enough info. It might well be a case of needing to do an update as sugested above, I dont have HDD so I cannot do the update as I need 128 meg, the memory card is only 20meg. I was hoping not to have to go this route and that it would work. :-)

Your lack of memory is the problem i think, if i guess right the xbox is the one that doesnt save the connection details?
so either i asume you have an old xbox 360 core and bought a 64 meg card. answer time to invest in a new memory card or HDD
if this is not correct then you have an arcade like mine with a 256 meg memory card then what are you loading on the card to take up so much space? same goes for you have one of the newer arcades with 256 or 512 on baord.

I also have a xbox360 extender and Win7 Home Premium media center. I have no problems. This xbox is an arcade with 256 mem card. When I was running XP media center, I could run media center extender without the mem card, but not with Win7.

Have you always had this problem or did it start recently ?

Mier are you conected Via Router or direct?

My setup is like this:

XBox360 MCE
|
Wireless AP (with 4port switch)----(wireless lan)-----ADSL router----WWW
|
Win7 Media Center

The Media Center and XBox are connected with Ethernet to the 10/100 switch ports of the AP and are in the saem subnet, so practically they are directly connected.

BTW. I tested this morning and the connection still works fine with the memory card removed. Nevertheless, I suggest you check your xbox sw version and upgrade to the latest. My dashboard version is 2.0.8955.0. I also run static IP adresses on all my equipment (DHCP switched off).

Simmilar to what i have (exept i use Vista instead of 7)
maybe bernies problem is that he is using a direct connection with no Static IP? or like i said ne needs to update his xbox software
