Hey there, I have this Jeff Dunham video clip, Spark of Insanity. It is a Windows movie file. It always played good, without problems. But recently it just don't play fluent any more. The audio plays, but the video freezes continuously. What can the problem be? I tried other windows movie files too, and it plays good. And the one that wont play fluent here, play fluent at my friend's pc. Any suggestions?

Is it just this video, or other videos of the same format?

Its just this one, other videos with the same format play fine. But I tried the same jeff dunham clip I got from other friends, and its the same.

the same extension does not guarantee the same format..
try using something like vlc to play it and see if it works, most likely its a codec problem

did you install any codecs between then and now?
scratched media? Broken Codecs? Damaged file? Video drivers installed?
No I didn't install codecs or players or anything recent.

It's just this video, not any of the other does this.

Okay, so I installed vlc player, and with that player it works now, but still not with Nero showtime or windows media player.

So most people will now tell me, play it with vlc then. But I cant understand why this happened. I really dont like all this players and stuff, I stick to windows media player and nero showtime (just because I use it to encode some video files) and that's that. Isn't there a way I can fix this issue, other than using vlc from now on?

play the file with vlc, then in vlc, open the file properties and it will give you the codec information, audio and video.

copy and paste it back into this thread and we will see what you are missing.
otherwise, we gonna sit here the whole day playing guessing games

I couldn't find where to get the file properties, so I took a screenshot. On the right hand bottom corner it shows it's a avi file, am I right? But isn't windows media player then a avi player?

ok, totally direct instructions:

vlc-->media--->open file
(at this point select the file that will only play in vlc)
when the file starts playing, in vlc, click on "tools"--->"codec information"
and type the results here for stream 0 and stream 1

Okay, I manage to get some more info. The video codec is: dx50, and the audio codec is mpga. Does that say more?

I think I maybe got an old version, but does the info I got help more?

go here
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm/rev__610__20061201

click the download link (green section) and install ffdshow...3 or 4 mb worth. install using the defaults and your file will then play in media player etc

p.s. ignore the previous poster, your video isnt damaged, you proved it to yourself by playing it on your friends machine, as stated earlier.
Okay, I was just going to say that after re-starting my pc (it helped for a lot of issues in the past). Will try and let you know.

Fixed, except it still wont play through nero showtime. But I'll sort that out later on. Thanks a million!
