I wonder if any of you experts can shed some light on a problem I am having?

The problem began a couple of weeks ago - I am busy typing / working in a window of a program (email / Word etc) and suddenly the window 'deactivates' ie it changes from Dark Blue to light blue (my colour scheme). It doesnt minimise it just deactivates. I then need to click back in the window with my mouse and carry on typing.

It is not a virus (at least nothing my Antivirus picks up). At first I thought it was my wireless keyboard batteries but I changed them and it still happens.

It has happed twice while typing this and is most annoying. Any ideas?

Yes now that you mention it.....it does......I am going to time them.....You made me think it could be the SPAMANILATOR program I installed.

Probably another prog, maybe in systray, getting "focus" . Similiar to google chat popping up while I'm gaming, but at least I can see that one :)

Yup. My AV usually decides to update itself right in the middle of a pitched battle in WoW. The AV update process seizes focus and WoW gets minimized.

Took me ages to find the setting to 'fix' this.

Get TweakUI

There is a setting in tweakUI that prevents other windows from taking the focus (an annoying "feature" of XP)

Perhaps keep task manager open on top of the window you're working within. Sort the tasks by CPU usage. When your active window deactivates check the task manager to see which process currently has the highest CPU usage. It might not even be the highest usage. Take note of the top 5 or so processes sorted on % CPU usage.

I know that this is a real hack, and will probably only work if you're really lucky. It might give you some place to start investigating though.

Good luck.
