windows password

whenever i start up my laptop i never need to insert a p/w.
when i got home last night, the re was a power failure and my laptop was in standby mode. when i tried to start up, it asked for my windows login and p/w???
i have never set this as my xp was installed at the supplier...
is there any way i can find my password?

Or simply disconnect the power and remove the battery to reset the laptop.

Yeah, boot up in safe mode (F8), and then do the above.

Why? Just hold the off button for 4/5 seconds?
