Does anyone have any inside info of when Windows Phone 7 Series will be launched in SA? Apparently Microsoft will be launching it in some territories globally around 15 October and in the States maybe only in November.

I have been putting off my Vodacom upgrade for 8 months now in anticipation of what I believe is going to kick the pants off iPhone 4 but my two enquiries regarding Win Phone 7 have been met with quizzical expressions.

I enquired at Vodashop Menlyn and they weren't even aware of it! Unbelievable really. Then I got a call from the upgrades department informing me I qualified for an upgrade, and they didn't know either! Are Vodacom asleep or something??

Disappointingly, this coupled with the fact that it took 2 months for SA to get the iPhone 4 after overseas launch, is making me think that I can only get my hands on one in 2011. :(

Waiting 8 months (and longer) for a first gen device to come to market is not what I would do but kudos to you for havings such patience :-) .

The ONE advantage of SA getting phones so long after release, is that you can scout out the international feedback from early adopters. :p For example, I'm sure SA users are a little more wary of buying iPhone 4's after the "You can't make phone calls on your phone" debacle. ;) Or at least, they were able to take it into consideration. :)

I'm willing to stick it out to give what is a fairly revolutionary UI paradigm a chance. ;)

I would recommend not "investing" in Windows Mobile.... Windows Mobile has lost the war as they came in with too little too late...

Currently they are sitting @ 5% Global market share and shrinking. They dont have any Windows market (like Android or Apple) and will take them at least 2 years to get anything remotely decent...by that time there is no market share left...

Rather look at an Android phone...

Hi Gyver. Windows Mobile is dead. But Windows Phone 7 Series is a completely new platform built from the ground up. The majority of the OS is built on Silverlight. As for market share, I'm not really concerned about that. But mark my words, Windows Phone is going to be taking chunks out of it.

I don't know when it's officially launching but I'm attending a Microsoft event tomorrow that will give us a demo of Windows 7, Kinect and some other stuff. I will probably tweet about it from @nafisa1 if you want to follow updates. I suspect they might give a South African date.

Thanks. That would be fantastic! What MS event is it? TechEd?

It's a media event to update us on what's happening with MS.

TechEd takes place 17-20 Oct.

Cool thanks man. I presented at DevDays earlier this year actually. Not sure if you were there. Just mailed one of the MS guys to see if I can't find some info on Windows Phone as well. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. :p
