With a VM, your Macbooks with 8gb of ram is no better than a terminal with 2gb of ram. You probably just spend 20k for something you couldve done for 4k. And those VM? R1500 a month. Cloud is costly long term.lol we have 8GB Macbooks running VM's for dev and 30+ chrome tabs open and they're not even nearly breaking a sweat.
i think you're mixing up other OSs with MacOS![]()
I used to spend R25k a month on a physical server just hosting SQL dbs. Now I am paying in excess of 200k a month for it on cloud, because my CEO and CIO said we will goto cloud or bust. Bust is closer honestly. But you know the best part? We pay for Platinum Level Cloud Support...and when you have a problem? No we cant help you, but we can send you a help guide to do it yourself.
Cloud isnt such a blessing. I know of many sys admins thats moved a lot of their business back onto onsite servers, especially for systems with lots of content, and large data sets moving around. We are busy now plotting to do the same. Its simply just too costly for large data driven system to sit in the cloud. Most of our AI robots, are on premise to do the client processing. Its cheaper.
And yet ironic we spend R50k a month on a robot, to replace a system we built using Visual Basic, that did it for free. All because Robots are cool. Yip the lazier programmers has become, the more it will cost.
