Last night I downloaded and installed the latest bunch of Windows Updates, restarted the laptop and realised I can't connect to the internet anymore. I tested my internet access on a 2nd PC (that doesn't have the latest Windows Updates installed) and could access the internet without any problem. Then switched off my ZoneAlarm firewall on the laptop with the WUpdates installed and could then connect to the internet again. Unfortunately a lot of people with only one PC that have ZoneAlarm firewall installed will be without internet access right now since they'll simply assume their internet access is down.
SOLUTION:
The KB951748 Microsoft security update (it fixes a serious DNS cache-poisoning vulnerability) causes ZoneAlarm to stop working on Windows XP. ZoneAlarm released new versions of their products today that fixes this problem. Just downloaded the latest version from their site.
