Is it just me, or have telskum / saix done something to windows and symantec updates? websites load fine, but as soon as i try download /update it's slower than dialup. Tried it at work with same results.

Anyone else having a similar prob?

I downloaded from Symantec on Sunday afternoon and it was superfast for me. Actually much faster than normal.

Been a quiet month for me as I've only been playing WoW, checked my stats and I'm only 700 megs of my 3 gig cap. I have not been able to update norton or my windows updates for the last week, They keep on timing out.. So your not alone.

Over the last few days I've also lost all local connectivity. I can access international perfectly, but Local just times out as well.. IE: this website, SAIX, NukeCap, etc

Can anyone else test this? I'm with Telkom and I'm assuming Brandon is as well (or a SAIX account) I've been battling now for the last 3 hours reading forums, loading auto-updaters, etc, but nothing.. Norton just times out.

Loaded up NukeCap.. BOOOM.... Norton started updating instantly. Shut it down, closed down Nukecap, Retried the updater, Norton wont load. Back to Nukecap, and Norton is now updated...

SO WTF is wrong with SAIX/Telkom (other than the obvious)

Same problem, not capped, SAIX account, everything working fine 'cept norton and windows update. Any suggestions would be great

Edit: M$ AntiSpyware updates perfectly. How Bizarre.

I used to have all kinds of problems with Norton until I set up Live Update to use my proxy. Doesn't make sense, but if it works.....

I've always wondered why some companies charge an additional hundred bucks per month upgrading from 5Gb to 10Gb and exactly the same additional monthly charge when one upgrades from 10Gb to 20Gb, is that just marketing or is there a sensible reason behind this?. The only company who's pricing makes any sense is Imaginet, an extra R100 for every 10 extra gigs.

Just marketing, they want people to go for higher packages in the hope that most people will buy more than they need because it's cheap to do so (kinda like supersizing your fast food meal ;) )

Off Topic (For 3GB account users):

Change your ISP! Purchasing a 2nd 3GB account, after hitting the cap, amounts to approx.

Until there the SNO is up and RUNNING and WORKING Not gonna move from Telkom. I would love to have the extra bandwitdh a month, but I'm sick of phone when ever I have a problem with my line/account and getting pushed around from ISP to Telkom, to ISP to Telkom, etc, etc.

Now I phone one comapny and they must fix it. Really would love to know why my Norton does not work right with Telkom though

Another thought, of those who are battling, What version are you running and what is it NAV, or NIS?

I'm sorry I'd rather support anyone else than Telkom, by principle. I don't want to "support" them anymore in ripping South Africans off, even if it's a measily dent that I'm making in there running profits, by not using them as my ISP (started off with them in the beginning for the sake of convience when they installed my line and got things up and running).
Your point about reporting a problem to your ISP (non-Telkom) is valid. They usually just lodge a ticket with SAIX/Telkom, since it's almost ALWAYS a Telkom fault (ISP's just resell the SAIX accounts anyways) and that's it.

I watch streaming TV just about daily (I'm on the 384k ADSL service) and I hit the 3GB every 7 days. For me it would be unpractical to purchase additional accounts. I'd have to purchase a new ISP account every week in the month:
- that would be 4*R210 (cheapest 3GB ISP account)=R840/mo.
Luckily I opted for an uncapped ADSL promo allyoucaneat ran in April for
R480/mo.

I'm running NIS 2004, and it takes on average 39 seconds to run LiveUpdate manually, from start to finish (with no updates) when I test 20 July 2005 18:00-18:16
test #1: 48 seconds
test #2: 28 seconds
test #3: 38 seconds
test #4: 43 seconds

As you mentioned.. Everyone is just reselling telkom accounts anyway, in varies forms and shapes (specifically the shaped part) So using another ISP is in now way denting their pockets as they are still getting their money one way or another, Paying somebody to pay the hitman to kill somebody is still the same as paying the hitman directly

I'm running NIS 2003, Tried agian today and its a no go, it still wont update unless I use NukeCap :(

Major update on higher bandwidth ISP accounts

:D
Here's a revised list of higher bandwidth accounts. Checkout Hyperlink and Axxess: 20GB for R299/mo (a couple of rands more than current 3GB accounts).

Kalvaer, you still gonna stick with Telkom for the extra 17GB you could get with these 2 instead ?! ;-)

Hyperlink 5GB: R219/mo
Hyperlink 10GB: R259/mo
Hyperlink 20GB: R299/mo
Hyperlink 30GB: R349/mo

Imaginet 10GB: R349/mo
Imaginet 20GB: R449/mo
Imaginet 30GB: R549/mo

Globesky 10GB: R369/mo
Globesky 20GB: R469/mo
Globesky 30GB: R569/mo

Axxess 5GB: R224/mo
Axxess 10GB: R249/mo
Axxess 20GB: R299/mo
Axxess 30GB: R349/mo

ODS 5GB: R342/mo
ODS 10GB: R456/mo
ODS 20GB: R570/mo
ODS 30GB: R684/mo

WebAfrica 10GB: R342/mo
WebAfrica 20GB: R456/mo
WebAfrica 30GB: R570/mo

For the 20GB Hyperlink option, they say you can use the account on 1 - 4 computers at a time (1 - 4 concurrent connections) ;-) Nice!
