Windows updater

Is it really necessary to update the windows updater every time when there is an update available last Saturday it stated that I have to update it, in total the update was 64 mb today it stated 27 mb. I’ve got AVG antivirus & firewall and SuperAntispyware and a Rootkit.

It is necessary, but it depends. If you don't use internet that often on your pc, you can sort of forget about it.

Windows Updates are released every Tuesday of each week, or every second week, I'm not sure anymore. Sometimes you get one update, sometimes you get 5, it's a way for Microsoft to patch their mistakes and or update your Windows so that is could be compatible with some hardware or software.
