Hey guys... Help please...

Do Windows Updates overwrite/update themselves?

For example, I've searched the Microsoft Update Catalog for KB890830 (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64). There's a few results that come up, dated March 2009, January 2009, February 2009, December 2008 & January 2008.

So if I got the March 2009 update, would I need to get the preceding ones too? Or do they work like Service Packs (ie No need to install SP1 if you have SP2)?

It really depends on the specific update you're getting. The Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is a cumulative update, so if you get the latest one, it will contain any preceding updates for that tool.

In most cases, you can just get the latest update as determined by the Microsoft Update Tool, but their are a couple updates which require a previous version(s) as a prerequisite.

in any case the update just contains more virus's to the list for startup scanning. The program stays the same. Its the database that gets updated.
