I think if you're a linux user first, you don't have an ATI card. If you're an ATI user first, you don't stick with linux.

Windows Vista Aero Vs Linux Ubuntu Beryl

something i found which acts like Beryl for Windows... Its close, but not the same. The cube's only one sided... have a look and play with it. I'm off to look for better apps like this : http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Yod-m-3D-Download-70702.html

I have ubuntu with beryl running with my XP on dual boot. Although beryl is still very buggy at times, it's SO amazing! I need to upgrade my pc though 
The effects feisty comes with out the box (wobbly windows and 3D cube desktop) runs on my 1ghz geforce4 system. Well, it did until I lost all my desktops but one, lost everything on my panel and then lost the little bar ontop of the windows. They return when I turn off the effects. It's still a bit buggy.
I've attempted Kubuntu getting it setup so i can install beryl etc. Put it this way, i couldnt setup my monitors and videocard. After 9 hours browsing, and trying to find out what to do and fighting with it, i deleted the partition, Thanks, you guys can have Linux, i'll stick with Vista!

As long as linux is stuck with the console thing to accomplish anything, I don't see much of a future for it. Took me quite a while to find out to type "sudo nvidia-settings"

Windows Vista is long for Windows ME
You don't need Ubuntu to run Beryl. You can run it on almost any linux flavour including Debian. (Ubuntu is basically Debian). I would rather stick to linux as a server os but debian is also very good as a desktop os. Vista on the other hand is just pure crap. I had to redo a few of our laptops with Windows XP because Vista slows them down (even with all security + pop-ups disabled) to much it turns a perfectly good laptop into more of an annoyance than a business tool. Way to go MS. 5+ years, 50 Million SLOC, and Billions of dollars and linux still kicks your ass.
