Windows Vista and partitions.......

a friend of mine bought a laptop with windows vista basic on it.the HDD is partioned to 3 drives.he wants to xp on it.problem is that I have deleted the partitions and formatted the HDD but everytime I start the xp cd and it has finished installing the setup files to start windows it says that it does not detect any hard disks.any help please?

You probably need to install a driver for the sata HDD. I suggest you google it.

but it does not make any sense.if i have formatted the disk it means it's empty.then if you put in the xp disk it should install sata hdd drivers from to pick it up or does it mean the vista partition is not completely removed?

thanks for link but why doesn't sp2 dont have the drivers?any other suggestions?
