Good morning MyBB....

A colleague has the following problem on his home PC, running Windows Vista....

about two weeks ago, the pc's clock would jump back to 2007 every time it is started. he then changes the clock back, but at the next restart it's back to 2007.

the machine is about 8 years old.

Instead of trying to sift through all the info on google i thought i would ask here for advice, seeing that Google get's all it's info from here in any case :D

easy to do ????

Pretty much. Don't know were you will get a replacement, I just normally used a faulty/broken motherboards.

Weird that it jumps back on restarts thought, should only do that if the power is switched off at the power plug or there in a power failure.

Agreed with SSB, sounds like a battery issue.

Easiest hardware job to do... takes approx 2 mins to do :D

SSB mentioned that finding a replacement will be difficult ...

any ideas where to look ???

He probably does plug it out, like me, since lightning can come out of nowhere here in the highveld. When I'm not at home, my PC/Router is not plugged in.

It's the obvious thing to do.

Nevertheless, mine doesn't lose years and ****. I've actually gained like 2 minutes in a year or strange things like that, but obviously that is not caused by a blat fattery.

Open your tower, and check on the motherboard.
The battery is normally the flat watch type, and replacements are available at all hardware stores, most grocery stores and some garages.
Common types are the C2032, C2025 and similar.

it looks like a watch battery. look for in on the mainboard. Gentle with the clips.

Take the battery to a hardware store, remote shop....

If they charge you R50 or more they are ripping you a new one..

Many pharmacies sell them as well, but it is really not a scarce item.

R50?

Some places sell them for less than R10
